Charities

In the past, the NSMBA has played a yearly competition called The Earl Spencer. A considerable amount of money has been raised for AGE UK plus equipment and support to teach short mat bowls to residents in care homes.

The NSMBA has also had ‘FUN DAYS’ which originally raised money for the Air Ambulance.

Members from NSMBA have continued to have the Charity Days which are called Randoms as the players are chosen at random to form teams. This year we have chosen two excellent charities to support.

The first was Macmillan Nurses who are specialists in the caring of cancer patients, They are able to help patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options, and support you through the disease. The amount raised was £251.00

Our second charity was Crohn’s and Colitis which is a charity that helps patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Although there is no known cure, surgery can sometimes make a difference. The support helps to fund research and raise awareness. The amount of money raised was £130.00

On Thursday 27th October the Over 60’s competition was played at Cosgrove Village Hall and the profits of £30 for hiring the equipment from Cosgrove Bowls Club was donated to Willen Hospice.  It was an enjoyable day and hopefully, Willen Hospice can use the money to help people in their care.

2023

On 25th June 2023, we had 11 teams of four taking part in a Randoms competition at Bridgman Bowls Club.  The 44 names were chosen at random to form teams of 4.  It was a great day of good short mat bowls played in good humour and sportsmanship,

We raised a total of £148.50 which was entry money and a raffle which has been transferred to Marie Curie Charity to give support to people at the end of their life.

August 2023

In the past, we have raised money via the Earl Spencer competition for Age UK Northamptonshire, but we are now raising the money with a Random competition. The competition was held on 20th August and 53 members attended. It was a great day with lots of very good bowling. The total raised via the entry fees and the raffle was £235.00.

Age UK Northamptonshire was extremely grateful as they do a huge amount of work for the elderly and disabled funded purely from donations.
